Love bugs in the fall, bird droppings year-round, and road tar from summer resurfacing are three of the most damaging things that end up on a Texas car. All three need to come off quickly, and the wrong removal method can do more harm than the mess itself.

Why Speed Matters
Bird droppings and love bug remains are acidic. In hot sun, they can start etching the clear coat within a day or two, leaving dull spots that only polishing can fix. Tar isn’t acidic, but it bonds to paint and attracts more dirt. The sooner you deal with any of them, the easier and safer removal is.
Love Bugs and Bug Splatter
- Soften first. Let water or a bug-remover pre-soak sit for a minute. Dried bugs come off much more easily once they’re rehydrated.
- Don’t scrub dry. Rubbing dried bugs with a towel grinds bits of shell into the paint.
- Protect ahead of time. A wax or ceramic layer makes bugs easier to release. Our Premium and Ultimate packages include protectants that help.
Bird Droppings
- Lay a soaked microfiber towel over the spot for a few minutes to soften it.
- Lift it off, don’t wipe. Droppings often contain grit from seeds and sand.
- If you see a dull ring afterward, the etching has started. Wash and protect the area soon.

- Use a dedicated tar remover and let it dwell. Don’t pick at spots with a fingernail or razor.
- Tar usually collects behind the wheels and along the rocker panels, so check the lower body after driving through construction zones.
Where a Touch-Free Wash Fits In
A touch-free automatic wash is great for regular removal of bugs and fresh droppings. The pre-soak and high-pressure rinse lift them without anything scraping the paint. For heavy, baked-on tar, pre-treat the spot, then run the car through the wash. Our self-serve bays are also a good option if you want to hit problem areas with a high-pressure wand yourself.
What Not to Do
- Don’t use dish soap. It strips wax and protectants.
- Don’t use household glass cleaner on paint.
- Don’t take a bug-covered car through a brush wash. The brushes drag that debris across every panel.
