Why Rinsing Your Trailer Matters

• Rust and corrosion. Water and mud trapped in frame channels, crossmembers, and leaf springs hold moisture against steel.
• Bearings and brakes. Grit near hubs and brake components speeds up wear.
• Invasive species. Texas Parks and Wildlife asks boaters to clean, drain, and dry boats and trailers to avoid spreading invasive species like zebra mussels and giant salvinia between lakes.
• Bunks and rollers. Plant material and mud trapped on carpeted bunks can scratch the hull the next time you load.

Step-by-Step: Rinsing a Trailer in a Self-Serve Bay

1. Remove weeds and debris by hand. Check the axle, bunks, rollers, and lights.
2. Start with a high-pressure rinse underneath. Work the wand along the frame rails, crossmembers, springs, and around the hubs. Mud builds up in places you can’t see from above.
3. Use foam or soap on the frame and fenders if there’s grime or a waterline.
4. Rinse the bunks and rollers. Keep the wand moving and back off a little on carpeted bunks.
5. Don’t blast directly into wheel bearings, seals, or electrical connectors at close range. Rinse around them instead.
6. Finish with a thorough rinse so no soap is left in frame channels.
