A self-serve car wash gives you the water pressure and the soap. What you bring from home turns a quick rinse into a clean you’re proud of. Here’s the self-serve car wash checklist we’d give a friend heading to our bays in Fort Worth, plus what to leave at home.

- Foaming brush
- Tire and engine cleaner
- Wax / protectant setting

- Card and contactless payment, so you don’t need quarters
What to Bring to a Self-Serve Car Wash
- 4–6 clean microfiber drying towels. A large waffle-weave towel dries a whole panel in one pass.
- One separate towel for wheels and door jambs. Never use it on paint.
- A soft wheel brush for lug nuts and spokes the wand can’t fully reach.
- A wash mitt, if you’d rather not use the shared foaming brush on your paint.
- Glass cleaner and a glass towel for streak-free windows after you pull out.
- Interior wipes for the dash, console, and cupholders.
- A trash bag to clear out the cabin while the pre-soak works.
- A bin or bucket to keep wet towels off your seats on the drive home.
- Your phone or card. We’re cashless, so just tap to start.
Short on time? Our touch-free automatic bay washes, protects, and dries in 3 minutes or less, right next door.

- Bug and tar remover for love bug season. See how to remove love bugs, bird droppings, and tar.
- Tire shine to finish the look after the tire cleaner.
- Spray sealant or quick detailer for extra gloss while you dry.
- A small step stool for the roof of a lifted truck or van.
- A headlamp for late-night wheel wells. The bays are well-lit, but it helps.
What Not to Bring
- Dish soap. It strips wax and sealant and dries out rubber trim.
- Ammonia-based glass cleaner. It can damage window tint.
- Old bath towels or t-shirts. They leave lint and can cause fine scratches.
- Harsh household degreasers. The bay’s tire and engine setting handles grime safely.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring to a self-serve car wash? Microfiber drying towels, a wheel brush, glass cleaner, interior wipes, a trash bag, and a card or phone to pay. The bay supplies water, soap, a foaming brush, wax, and spot-free rinse.
Can I bring my own soap to a self-serve car wash? You don’t need to. The bay includes pre-soak, soap, tire cleaner, and wax. Bringing your own wash mitt for a gentler hand wash is fine.
Is the foaming brush safe for my paint? Rinse it with the high-pressure wand first to clear any grit, then use light pressure. For zero contact, use our touch-free automatic bay.
Do I need quarters at Ben’s self-serve bays? No. Ben’s is cashless. Tap your card or phone to start.
